Gustavo Emilio Cote Barco, born in Bucaramanga (Colombia), is currently Assistant Professor at the Javeriana University in Bogota, Department of Criminal Law. He received his doctoral degree from University of Göttingen (Germany) in 2017 with a thesis on the principle of legality in international criminal law. His PhD thesis was supervised by Professor Kai Ambos and earned the distinction summa cum laude. He also holds a LLM from the University of Göttingen (2013); a master's degree in criminological sciences from the Externado University of Colombia (2009) and a postgraduate qualification (especialización) in criminal law from the National University of Colombia (2006). Until 2011, he worked as Academic Coordinator at the Department of Criminal Law (Javeriana University) and as a researcher at the Toledo International Centre for Peace in Bogota.
