Honorius Augustodunensis' »Elucidarium« is probably one of the most widely disseminated medieval texts on the subject of religious knowledge outside of academic theology. But both in itself and in the numerous vernacular translations the text provided its audience with fundamental religious knowledge that extended beyond moralistic precepts and edification. The present volume is an edition of the most frequently transmitted Old French version, studying the changes imposed on the text in the course of translation and transmission and attempting to draw conclusions from these about the audiences it was targeted at.
